Chicka Chicka Boom
Boom
Look There's a Tree in our Room!
I have had so many requests for the directions for my Chicka Chicka Tree that I have decided to post them here for all to use. So here goes ... And good luck!
1. You need a 18" x 15" plywood base
2. In the middle of the base, nail a 2" x 20" piece of wood
3. Get a carpet roll and cut it to about 7'
4. Cover the carpet roll with strips of burlap (hot glue these to the carpet roll)
5. Strip the material off of an umbrella (this skeleton will be the support for your leaves) Make sure your umbrellas handle will fit into your carpet roll before your ruin a good umbrella
6. Cut out palm leaves from bulletin board paper and then laminate them (I had to replace mine halfway through the year because they faded.) Then hot glue them to the metal skeleton.
7. Use brown lunch sacks for the coconuts. Roll them into something that looks like a coconut (Thanks Diane for this idea) Hot glue these under the leaves.
8. Find foam letters and hot glue them to the trunk of the tree. (Mine were given to me from a teacher leaving Kindergarten, I wish I knew where they came from)
9. With the left over burlap, cover the plywood base. I cut mine in strips and then hot glued them to the base.
10. Slip the carpet roll over the 2" x 20" and there you have your very own Chicka Chicka Tree!
As teachers, we always worry about safety of our children. Mine has never tipped over, my base is great, thanks Dad!
